James is best known for his dry witted sense of humor, for being a typical English gent and being a third of one of BBC2’s most successful presenting teams on the ever popular Top Gear.
Not surprisingly James’ solo projects have also been a big hit for BBC2, with the 3rd series of James May’s Man Lab broadcast in early 2013. The series follows James and his mission to save modern man. A generation ago men were a resourceful, practical and dependable band of brothers, if only it had lasted! Before Man Lab James was celebrating the good old days and revisiting once hugely popular toys in the ratings winning James May’s Toy Stories. The six part series for BBC2 proved that even in a world of Wii’s and Xbox’s, Meccano, Hornby & Scalextric to name a few, have an important role to play. There will also be a Toys Christmas special this year with a one hour programme dedicated to the glider.
November 2006 brought James to our screens in a new guise, a beer swilling wine novice with Oz Clarke endeavoring to teach him the finer art of French wine in Oz & James’ Big Wine Adventure also for BBC2. For the second series the boys traveled though California in search of affordable new world wines and in the 3rd series Oz & James Drink to Britain the boys are in search of the best of British.
Other accolades include James May On The Moon, James May at The Edge of Space, James May’s 20th Century , James May’s Big Ideas, James May’s Top Toys and My Sister’s Top Toys.
A freelance writer for many years, James had a regular column in The Daily Telegraph and contributed to Car Magazine, The Scotsman, Country Life, One, the Daily Express and various technology and travel titles, today James is a regular contributor and columnist for Top Gear Magazine. His first book May on Motors (a collection of his most humorous writing) was published in 2006 with a sequel Notes from the Hard Shoulder published in 2007.
James has a keen interest in cars that are either very posh or very basic and a passion for motorbikes. He is a very relaxed and professional presenter with a sharp dry wit and an exuberant personality, making him the ideal choice for after dinner speeches and corporate events, past clients have included the Royal Bank of Scotland, JP Morgan, Sun Chemicals, The Carphone Warehouse, Rabobank International & Rolls Royce PLC.
