Laura was the 2004 entry for the Lancaster University Formula Student team. She had a 600cc, 4-stroke Yamaha R6 motorcycle engine (the world’s first 600cc 4-stroke motorcycle) and, like many of the Lancaster Racing vehicles, adopted 10” wheels; however Laura’s wheels were of an in-house design, produced by the 2004 team. She also saw further development upon her predecessor by utilising aluminium drive shafts over the typical choice of steel. In terms of design she is, without argument, one of the best looking entries produced by Lancaster University, with respect to both the body and the paint scheme.
When it came to the event, Laura and the 2004 Lancaster Racing Team returned with an exceptional set of results, having placed 8th out of 56 teams and being the 2nd best team from the United Kingdom. A particular area of excellence was the acceleration event, where they achieved 3rd place overall.
It is safe to say in terms of her operation, success and especially appearance, Laura is a role model for the 2014 team and future teams to come.
