Part-time Study

Lancaster University Engineering Department recognises that full-time study may not be suitable for all, and in light of this offers all MSc courses as a part-time two year option.

The part-time option is designed for people who are currently employed in an engineering environment who wish to enhance their skills. Modules are the same as the full-time course, with delivery over two years. Thus modules one to three would be delivered between October – December of year one, and modules four to six delivered between January and March of the student’s second year. Modules are delivered over a one-week intensive ‘taught’ period followed by coursework which can be done off-site.

Part time students do not take ENGR530: Linking Project, but can however exchange this for an option taken from the department's other MSc modules.

Therefore in total, part-time students will spend approximately 6 weeks per academic year at Lancaster University, plus occasional days for research and tutorials.

While studying, students undertake a project within their company. This project will consist of the student’s normal work enhanced by applying the knowledge and skills gained during the taught modules. This work is assessed by dissertation that is based upon the student’s work within their company and must demonstrate how the coursework had been applied and developed.
