Engineering Education Scheme

In December 2007 the department hosted a 3 day event aimed at pursuading more young people that engineering is a valuable and interesting career. The event brought together regional schools, industry and department staff to solve real world engineering problems. more.

The Wave Power Challenge

In July 2006 and July 2007 students were given a brief experience of university life and the type of work carried out at the university. Renewable energy can often be used to inspire the younger mind. As such, we run a 'wave power challenge' for regional schools to participate in, culminating in a visit to the university and use of our wave tank facilities. Details of the challenge are avaialable as a pdf from here. See news articles for 2006 and 2007

Future Events

For academic year 2007/2008 it is hoped to widen the event to include several local schools competing. We are looking at alternative methods of funding the scheme. For a 15 min video outlining the wave power challenge click here. (Windows media format, 94 MB)
